Obituary of Joan C. Guariglia

Joan C. Guariglia, of Southington, formerly of Brookfield, wife of the late Anthony Guariglia, Jr., passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Shore Medical Center in Somers Point, NJ.  She was born in New York, NY on October 24, 1942, daughter of the late James and Catherine (Graebener) Gribben.

She was a graduate of St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing and worked for many years as an oncology nurse (RN) for Danbury Hospital.  She was passionate about the care of her patients and loved what she did.  Joan retired from nursing at the age of 75.

Joan enjoyed spending her days catching up with family, playing Scrabble, reading books, watching sports (UConn Huskies basketball and NY Yankees!) and watching reruns of old TV favorites (Perry Mason, Andy Griffith, I Love Lucy, Barney Miller, etc.).  Per Joan, “the newer shows were not very good!!!”. 

She will be sadly missed by her seven children, Michael (Janelle), Paul (Quinn), Lisa Guariglia, Joseph (Colette), Laura Smith (Mike), Anthony (Lara), and Jeannine Flugrad (Russ); twenty-one grandchildren and three great grandchildren. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 15th at 10:30am at St. Joseph Church, Brookfield.  Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Greenwich. 

The family will receive friends at the Brookfield Funeral Home on Friday morning between the hours of 9:00 – 10:00am.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends consider making a donation to the American Cancer Society or Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
